Mrs. Victoria H. Wilkinson, 96, formerly of Fort Plain, New York died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Jewish Home of Rochester, NY.
Born on March 21, 1916 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Shaheen Hage and Jamilia Daou Hage. Mrs. Wilkinson was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1934 where she completed four years of high school in three years, graduating with honors. She then graduated as an honor student from the Royal Academy of Cosmeticians, Schenectady, NY on December 14, 1946. She was a resident of the Fort Plain area most of her life, spending a brief period of time in Amsterdam and Canajoharie at Arkell Hall before making her final move to Rochester.
Mrs. Wilkinson was the owner and operator of Hilltop Beauty Salon on Clyde Street in Fort Plain for over 21 years from 1948-69.
She was a Maronite Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a sodalist for the 3rd Order Franciscan and a member of the Alter Rosary Society for Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She was a tireless advocate on behalf of children, the unborn and religious education.
Mrs. Wilkinson enjoyed crocheting, lace work and altering clothes for various Church’s and the Auriesville Shrine.
On June 15, 1936, Victoria was married to Mr. Bargey C. Wilkinson. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1985. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Amelia Fahy; brothers, Peter S. Hage, Sasen Hage; sister, Mary Nessle.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her daughters, Elaine Waldman and her husband Dr. Richard Waldman of Syracuse, NY, Mary Beth Quandt and her husband Christopher Quandt of Rochester, NY; sister, Sally D’Arcangelis of Fort Plain, NY; brother, George Hage of MO; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
